There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.     Proverbs 6:16-19

God hates the loneliness we feel from the distance we create!

Two ways we create distance from God

  • Our sin distances us from God!

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…      Romans 3:23

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.   John 3:17

Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.  James 1:15

  • Our complacency distances us from God!

“You believe in God, but you live your life as if He doesn't exist!” -- Craig Groeschel, The Christian Atheist

For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them...  Proverbs 1:32

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ…   Philippians 3:8

Do you ever feel distant from God?

Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide in times of trouble? Psalm 10:1

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”  Matthew 27:46

Even when we feel distant from God, God is not distant from Us!

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 8:38-39
