HURDLES OF HEALING

FORGIVENESS & BOUNDARIES

November 17, 2024  Sam Goins

  1. FORGIVENESS OVERCOMES THE PAST

And forgive our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.  Matthew 6:12 NLT

Then the master called the servant in.  You wicked servant, he said I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.  Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?  In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.  This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.

Matthew 18:32-35 NIV

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.      Colossians 3:13

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.      Eph. 4:32

  1. RECONCILIATION IS FOR THE PRESENT

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.         Hebrews 12:14

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.    Romans 12:17-19

“So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.                                                      Matthew 5:23,24

  1. BOUNDARIES BUILD FUTURE RELATIONAL TRUST

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”                                                         Proverbs 4:23 NIV

All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.   Matthew 5:37 NIV

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give”

2 Corinthians 9:7

“For each one should carry their own load”     Galatians 6:5
