A CHURCH THAT HEALS?

October, 27, 2024  Pastor Sam Goins

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”  Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.  He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”  Luke 4:19-21

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” --Matthew 9:35

WHAT ARE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS TO DO?

C - CARE FOR THOSE STRUGGLING

“You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” Luke 6:36 NLT

“I’m broken by their taunts, flat on my face, reduced to a nothing. I looked in vain for one friendly face. Not one. I couldn’t find one shoulder to cry on.” Psalm 69:20 MSG

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15 NIV

H - HELP WITH PRACTICAL NEEDS

“If we are rich and see others in need, yet close our hearts against them, how can we claim that we love God?” 1 John 3:17 GNT

U - UNLEASH AN ARMY

And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.  I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.  John 13:14,15 NLT

The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”  Mark 12:31 NLT

RREMOVE THE STIGMA

“You have not taken care of the weak. You have not tended the sick or bound up the injured. You have not gone looking for those who have wandered away and are lost. Instead, you have ruled them with harshness and cruelty.” Ezekiel 34:4 NLT

“I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak.” Ezekiel 34:16a NLT

C - COLLABORATE WITH THE COMMUNITY
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.  If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NLT

H – HOPE DEALERS

“I will transform the valley of trouble into a gateway of hope.” Hosea 2:15 NLT
