HOPE

Principle 2:

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him,

and that He has the power to help me recover.

“Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”    Matthew 5:4

Step 2:

We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.    Philippians 2:13 NIV

H IGHER POWER

For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power . . .     Romans 11:36a LB

O PENNESS TO CHANGE

Now your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better.

Yes, you must be a new and different person . . .     Ephesians 4:23–24a LB

P OWER TO CHANGE

For I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ

who gives me the strength and the power. Philippians 4:13 LB

E XPECT TO CHANGE

And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace

until his task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns.    Philippians 1:6 LB

OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST AND STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD BRINGS HOPE

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.   John 1:12 NLT

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,

who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.   Colossians 1:14 NLT

I have been ADOPTED as God’s child

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.

This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.  Ephesians 1:5 NLT

I am COMPLETELY FORGIVEN

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,

who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. Colossians 1:14 NLT

I CANNOT BE SEPARATED

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?

Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry,

or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? Romans 8:35 NLT

I AM A BRANCH ON CHRIST’S VINE

I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches.

Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:1,5 NLT

I AM A CITIZEN OF HEAVEN

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.  Philippians 3:20 NLT

I AM GOD’S WORKMANSHIP

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,

so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.  Ephesians 2:10 NLT

GOD’S OWN POSSESSION

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession.

As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.“

Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people.

Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”  1 Peter 2:9,10 NLT

I AM FREE FROM ANY CONDEMNING CHARGES AGAINST ME

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?  Romans 8:31

I AM A CHILD OF GOD

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.  John 1:12 NLT
